Talk Title: “Chemical Biology of Proteostasis”

Abstract: Our lab uses natural products with mysterious modes of action to explore proteostasis mechanisms. In this talk, I will discuss how a cyclic peptide natural product led to the discovery of an E3 ligase signaling network involved in translation quality control. This network detects ribosome stalling events during protein synthesis, resulting in ubiquitination and degradation of stalled translation factors on the ribosome. In multiple ongoing projects focused on biologically active small molecules, our lab integrates chemistry, functional genomics, structural biology, and proteomics to dive deeply into molecular mechanism and develop new therapeutic approaches.
