Talk Title: “Long-range Gene Regulation in Development and Disease”
Abstract: Enhancers are remotely located non-coding DNA elements that turn on and off genes in different cell types and in response to stimuli. Mutations affecting remote enhancers are a major cause of human diseases ranging from congenital malformations to cancer. We use innovative mouse genome engineering and genomics techniques to address two major questions about enhancer biology: 1. How do enhancer mutations lead to human congenital disorders? and 2. How do remote enhancers activate their target genes over distances that often exceed hundreds of thousands of base pairs?
