Talk Title: “Facing Defective Translation During Development”
Talk Abstract: Ribosome assembly and protein synthesis are universally crucial in all cells and tissues. Yet, it’s puzzling that dysfunctions in these fundamental biological processes exert a more pronounced effect on certain tissues over others, resulting in tissue-selective disorders collectively called ribosomopathies. A fundamental question in biology is where this specificity originates. My research aims to elucidate, at the molecular and biophysical level, how defects in ribosome assembly and function selectively impact certain tissues but not others. Our specific emphasis lies in investigating genetic perturbations affecting the development of the craniofacial complex or hematopoietic system. These tissues, originating from cell types highly sensitive to fluctuations in ribosome production, serve as prime targets for unraveling mechanisms of disease and fundamental aspects related to ribosome assembly and function.
